Meet Our Founder, Erica - Authentic Coaching Expert

Erica LOVES love, authentic humans, random acts of kindness, music, being the 1st one on the dance floor, and freedom (just to name a few). Born on July 3, 1984, this proud Detroit Michigander has lived quite the adventure. Starting out coding in BASIC at the age of 14, she pursued a career in law and politics while attending Michigan State University's James Madison College honors program. It was during this time that she discovered her authentic purpose; she was not like the rest of her peers. After running a State Representative campaign in one of Michigan's largest districts, she was appalled at the corruption in basically all branches of government, prompting her to reconsider law school and ask herself, now what?  

Returning to her technology roots, Erica began coding and representing cell phone game publishers to carriers back when phones flipped, face plates changed color, and the app store offered only a few options that fit on one screen. Feeling miserable sitting behind a desk all day staring at screens, she pivoted back to humans. This led to a pivotal moment where she shifted into the world of large-scale IT solutions, recruiting, and contingent labor, both onshore and offshore staffing—what she now humorously refers to as professional circle jerking.  

As she rose through corporate promotions, Erica began building a brand for her organization. She traveled most of the year attending conferences, EDI Work Groups, client meetings, and Exhibit Halls (this gal has set up and torn down more trade booths than she could ever recount), but eventually, the burnout and depression set in. Throughout this journey, she realized how important career coaching and mentorship can be, especially for those seeking their own authentic purpose.

None of these companies truly cared about the humans her recruiting team tirelessly sought to find. The bait and switch from India—where you interview one gentleman to bring onsite to a client, only to have a vastly different individual show up—was just one issue. Coupled with the HR and Vendor Management 'Karens' who should be filing papers instead of shaping talent acquisition management strategy, it painted a grim picture. 

Now living in Atlanta for the convenience of flight options, a promotion to expand the organization's national footprint, and the massive concentration of global organizations headquartered there, she was still oblivious to how the 'world' truly operates. Are you awake yet? 

Looking back, it's clear why the hidden multi-trillion dollar staffing industry she was a part of, along with the tools designed for job applications—like LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, and Indeed—seemingly aim to further enslave you. It’s not you who is the problem; it’s the 'systems' in place. You are a beautiful, magnificent human worthy of pursuing your authentic purpose and loving what you do! 

Realizing she had to change her path while missing 'home,' community, and family, she made the decision to return to Detroit, where she could focus on career coaching and her founder biography.

From running HR for the region's largest landscape & snow removal company to developing a sales strategy for a FinTech payment gateway, and even seeking something more '9-5 normal' in cybersecurity Project Management, Erica has always been driven by two things: a genuine desire for the fiat dollar and an authentic purpose to wake up every morning HAPPY!  

Then it happened; Erica experienced what it was like to wake up authentically happy for her 'job,' one that no longer felt like a 'job,' and since then, she has been unable to settle for anything less. AND NOR SHOULD YOU!  

In 2015, with over 25 years of experience in technology and workforce solutions, along with a side career coaching business, she embarked on a mission to 'FIX' the hiring systems. She has always believed that anything is possible.  

Fix the hiring systems? You mean the ones riddled with dishonesty from multiple angles, such as hiring teams misrepresenting what the 'job' actually IS and applicants fabricating their reasons for wanting that 'job'? The systems are filled with bias that obstructs qualified candidates and small business owners from connecting, while many in this cycle would prefer to pursue their authentic purpose for abundance.  

Erica knew there had to be a better way.  

Tasked with implementing a hiring system for the third-largest eCommerce company in North America, she struggled to find a 'tool' that met all the requirements to fix the broken system, so she began building one herself. Leveraging AI before it became mainstream, her system was effective, but her business partnerships did not flourish.  

After that dream fizzled (infiltrated by VC investors and greed), she returned to her passion: career coaching. She helps others find new jobs or shift careers, assists organizations in developing effective hiring methodologies that enhance retention, and focuses on her current favorite, TAE Purpose Coaching (quit that job, and go do what you LOVE!).  

As a master of navigating the complexities of job boards and internal HRIS systems, she empowers many to get their resumes noticed and discover unlisted opportunities.
